2.  I'm having problems installing on a PC with multiple user accounts, do I need to give my user accounts elevated rights?

In most environments, our users experience no problems installing RangeMaster Pro II on PCs with multiple user accounts.

To make it so that the other users can access RangeMaster Pro II, you will need to:

  1. Make them power users.
    1. Right click on My Computer
    2. Click Manage
    3. Click Local Users and Groups
    4. Double click Groups
    5. Double click Power Users
    6. Add the users that you want to access RangeMaster Pro II
  2. Make RMP2Data.mdb a shared file.
    1. In Windows Explorer go to C:\Program Files.
    2. Right click "RangeMaster Pro II" and click Properties
    3. Click the Sharing tab and check the "Share this folder on the network" box
  3. Place a shortcut in the "All Users\Start Menu" with a valid Target value.
    1. From the C:\Program Files\RangeMaster Pro II folder, make a shortcut of Range2.exe
    2. Rename this shortcut "RangeMaster Pro II"
    3. Copy the shortcut to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu folder.  (Note!  This shortcut should have the Target property set to "C:\Program Files\RangeMaster Pro II\Range2.exe")
If you are still experiencing problems, we have a couple of alternatives:

Install on each user account.
  1. Uninstall the application.
  2. Temporarily give the user admin rights.
  3. Logon as that user and install RangeMaster Pro II.  On PCs where multiple users are logging on, you will need to install the application while logged on as each user, essentially installing it on top of itself.
  4. Set the user's rights back to what they were.
OR

Use the RunAsUser utility.

This third party utility encrypts the administrator's username and password and encapsulates it along with the Range2.exe to create a new executable, allowing the user to run RangeMaster Pro II with elevated rights.

It will only give the elevated rights to this specific task, so you can be confident knowing that the user will not have access to any restricted resources.  If you would like to use this software, you can download it by clicking here, then perform the following steps:

  1. Make a copy of the file C:\Program Files\RangeMaster Pro II\Range2.exe.
  2. Execute the RunAsUser utility:
  • When asked to select a file type, select “Standard Executable” and click Continue.
  • When asked to select the file you wish to run with elevated privileges, select the copy of Range2 that you made in step a and click Continue.
  • Enter the PC administrator’s user name, password and domain if applicable and click Continue.
  • Check the “Embed Target File in new Executable” box.
  • Enter a new executable file name, such as Range2RA.exe and click OK.
  • Confirm the information on the summary page and click Compile.
  1. Start RangeMaster Pro II by executing Range2RA.exe.

3.  When I click the Preview button on a report selection window, nothing happens.  What do I need to do?

This can happen when one of two files (craxdrt.dll or crviewer.dll) is not registered properly or is damaged.  To resolve this issue, do the following;

Note!  If this is done improperly, it can affect other applications on your PC so we suggest that it be done by your IT staff.

  1. Backup your data file to a flash drive or other media. You can do this by clicking the “Backup” button on the toolbar and selecting the appropriate location.
  2. Uninstall RangeMaster Pro II.
  3. Delete the C:\Program Files\RangeMaster Pro II folder.
  4. Click the Start button > All Programs > Accessories > Run.
  5. Unregister crviewer.dll by entering (regsvr32.exe /u CRViewer.dll), then press Ok.
  6. Locate the file crviewer.dll.  It is probably in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
  7. Rename crviewer.dll to something like oldCRViewer.dll.
  8. Repeat steps e through g for craxdrt.dll.
  9. Reinstall RangeMaster Pro II application only.
  10. Restore your data file to its original location.
