I have some firearms that have been sold and I
want to keep them in RangeMaster Pro II but I don’t want them
showing up in reports.
The following steps describe
how to put sold firearms in a
common
location and designate them as sold, preventing them from showing up in
reports:
-
a. On the Location tab, create
a new location with a descriptive name like “Sold
Firearms”.
b. On the toolbar, click Lists.
c. Select the Firearm Tab in the List Groups box then click
Status.
d. Add a status named “Sold” and make sure that its
“List in Reports” box is unchecked.
e. Now, when a firearm is sold, transfer the firearm to the
“Sold Firearms” location by clicking Transfer on
the toolbar and following the instructions on the Transfer window.
f. On
the Firearm tab, change the firearm’s status to
“Sold”.
This
will keep the
sold firearms in the system but prevent them from showing on reports
unless you
specifically request a list of firearms with a status of
“Sold” on the Firearm
Inventory Report. Note! If this feature
doesn’t work on your PC,
please upgrade to the latest version of RangeMaster Pro II. (Version 224 applied a fix
to this process.)

How
do I create a firearm inventory list for the
firearms that are not assigned to anyone?
Version I (Basic)
Firearms
not assigned to officers
are normally in the Unassigned Inventory.
(Unassigned Inventory is available from the Firearm Tab.) To get a list of these
firearms, select the Firearm
Inventory report and check Unassigned in the Select Firearm Assignment
box.
Version
II
Firearms
that are
not assigned to officers can be assigned to locations.
Locations can be added on the Location tab of
the Home Window. Simply
click the
“Location” tab, then click the
“Add” button on the toolbar.
A location could be an Armory, a gun cabinet,
a vehicle, or any other place. Now
you
can transfer any existing firearms to that location or click on the
Location’s
“Firearm” tab and add firearms just like you would
for an officer. Now
run the Firearm Inventory Report (on the
toolbar click Reports > Firearm group > Firearm
Inventory). On the
report selection window, for the
option titled “Firearms assigned to”, select
“Locations”. This
will produce a list of all firearms
assigned to Locations. The
listing can
be further filtered using any of the other selection criteria.
If
your not sure how
to add a location or a firearm click
here to
view our list of audio/video tutorials.

What
is
Session and how do you use it?
A
session is
simply a way
of grouping multiple
qualifications together and is available only in RangeMaster Pro II.
You create a session by clicking
Lists on the toolbar then select the qualification tab group and then
click Session.
After
you have
created a session,
you can reference that session on associated qualifications. Then you can run the
Qualification Detail for
Session report to get a list of qualifications by session.

I
have two workstation licenses. How
do I install RangeMaster Pro on a desktop
and a laptop that I will be using at a remote location (i.e. not
connected to a
network) and keep both updated with all the updates?
A
workstation license
is required
for each PC on which RangeMaster Pro is installed.
Additional workstation licenses can be
purchased as the need arises.
Version
I (Basic)
This
version does not have a
synchronization function so you will only be able to do updates on one
PC at a
time unless they are both pointing to the same data file on a server. If the laptop is to be
used remotely where it
can’t point to a server location, you will need to suspend
updates on the
desktop PC while you are using the laptop PC and copy the data file
back and
forth between the two. The
data file
name is RangeDat.mdb and its default location is in the C:\Range folder. You can use the
“Backup” button on the
toolbar to copy the file to a flash drive or other portable media.
Version
II
This
version has a synchronization
function so updates can be done on both PCs at the same time.
- Install
RangeMaster Pro II on the desktop PC and register it, as described in
your
Quick Start Registration instructions.
- Install
the RangeMaster Pro II application only on the laptop PC. Skip step 2 of the
installation, which installs
the data file.
- Copy
the data file installed in the first step to the laptop. You can use the
“Backup” button on the
toolbar to copy it to a flash drive or other portable media then use
the
“Restore” button on the laptop to place it there. The default location for
the data file is the
C:\Program Files\RangeMaster Pro II folder if you are running on
Windows XP and
C:\Users\Public\RangeMaster Pro II if you’re running on
Windows Vista. The
file name is Rmp2Data.mdb.
- You’re
now ready to enter data on both PCs.
When you want to synchronize the files, there are two options:
- Backup
the data file from the laptop to a flash drive, take it to the desktop
and on
the menu bar click File > Synchronize Data File and point to the
flash
drive. Then copy the synchronized data file back to the
laptop.
- Get
the laptop to a location where it can be recognized by the network then
and on
the menu bar click File > Synchronize Data File and point to the
other data
file.

How can I keep track of firearms that are in my
armory?
The location tab
was designed specifically to accommodate firearms and equipment that
are not assigned to officers. Firearms
and equipment can be assigned to either an officer or to a location.
Picture a tree diagram – officers and locations
are on the top level. Firearms and
equipment are on the next level down reflecting their assignment to
either a person or a place.
To create
a new location and add firearms to it:
- Click the Location tab.
- Click the Add button on the
toolbar.
- Enter a location name (This is not
a list item, but an actual location such as Gun Locker.) and select an
agency from the dropdown.
- Click the Firearm tab.
- Click the Add button on the
toolbar.
- Enter the required firearm
information.
For an audio/video tutorial on adding
locations, click here, then
select “How to add a Location”, it’s the
seventh video on the list.
